Victorian terraces stepped up the south hillsides around Meersbrook and Norton Lees. Steep run-off and old drainage. Sub-areas: Heeley, Meersbrook, Norton Lees, Gleadless.

Dense terraces and interwar estates, among the oldest and most blockage-prone drainage in the city. Sub-areas: Firth Park, Page Hall, Shiregreen, Wincobank.

East end steel-industry-era terraces with combined and ageing drainage. Sub-areas: Darnall, Attercliffe, Tinsley, Handsworth.
